More about Social Body Inquiry

Social Body Inquiry : A New Design Science for Accelerated Sustainable Social Change

Social Body Inquiry (SBI) uses scientific data gathering methods to inquire, identify, document and apply human body responses/reactions to current social issues. SBI seeks to measure, what is currently unmeasured and under-considered as the major driving factor in any social change process--human hardwiring and human nature--and inherent levels of flight, fight and freeze.

Primary goals are:

•    Standardizing and mainstreaming SBI as a legit practice that poses critical questions, engages valuable somatic feedback loops and produces hard somatic data that can be used to better understand, design and implement systemic social/organizational change initiatives.

•    Establishing somatic feedback loops as critical baseline human process information to be obtained and included in the design of any whole-systems accelerated social change initiatives.

•    Creating a new Somatic Library that documents hard somatic data resulting from Standardized Social Body Inquiry Processes.

•    Call to action for social systems designers to create SBI’s for their own projects (using a standardized Social Body Inquiry process) and contribute the results to the public Somatic Library initially being launched on the Innate Intelligence website.

•    Publishing social somatic findings in trade journals and mainstream magazines to raise awareness of SBI and the importance of including our body responses/reactions in all that we do and design.

Standardized Social Body Inquiry Criteria:

1.    Establish body baseline. This is the starting point, the initial inquiry from which to launch further inquiries. By establishing a neutral or starting baseline, we can track biological body changes as inquiries explore and unfold current issues.

2.    Track and record body responses/reactions: One or two word responses can be easily tracked, recorded, categorized and fed back in graphical patterns that we can recognize.

3.    Categorize body feedback in specific terms: Add new categories as needed.

     o    hyper-arousal and constriction
     o    dissociation
     o    resourced resiliency
     o    emotionality

4.    Use Excel Spreadsheets and graphs to graphically document patterns that connect, disconnect and drive the social body:  By presenting patterns in a recognizable manner, we can begin to understand in a whole new way, with whole new sets of information, how key issues are really affecting us, and how we may be able to work within ourselves and social systems to achieve accelerated growth and transformation.

5.    Strategy Development: Given whole new sets of information regarding the 95-99% of subconscious body-based biological drivers, social architects can better create context, conditions and environment that catalyze self-empowered, self-organizing emergent movements that transform societies. Presenting strategies based on findings from Social Body Inquiries, we can prove the value and efficacy of Body Inquiry Design Science (BIDS).
